Children usually start at Slapton at the beginning of the term during which they will be five. We are flexible about start dates and happy to take children earlier than this if they are ready to come, or later if there is a reason why they are not ready to start school. We do not automatically put children up into the next group each September; we value the freedom to move children when they are ready to go up, not just because it is the end of the academic year.

This means that they are sometimes in a group for four terms, if it is advantageous for them to be there, or less, if this would be the better option. The one fixed point is that all the children leave at the end of the summer term after their eighth birthday.

We welcome all comers to Slapton, but before entering your child for the school, we ask you to make a mutually convenient appointment to visit the school and meet the staff and children. If you then decide to enter your child, we will make another date for him/her to spend the day with us during the term prior to their starting date.

We occassionally have Open Mornings when it is possible to visit the school without an appointment. The dates are advertised in the local press.
